The parade was to start at 10am on Sunday Aug 7, 2006. So, we decided to leave Hays, KS, at about 8:30am (about 60 miles from Speed). We thought we had plenty of time to get there.
We covered the last 5 miles in approximately one hour. And the last mile and a half was by foot! Needless to say, we missed the parade.
Walking toward the event we saw a powered chute. They are neat, but loud.
Even the main roads into Speed were re-christened, as well as the water tower.

Once we got to the event, we stood in line for
about an hour to get our commemorative hot wheels car.
Apparently, from current news releases, there were 5000 of these cars
made. Limited quantities. :)
Also, current news articles from estimate that the number of people attending the event was around 10,000. A fair number of people for Speed, KS. The car was designed by Hot Wheels designer, Larry Wood, who also attended the event and was giving out autographs. One of the features of the 3-Window '34 Ford hot rod was the graphic on the back window, which is the logo of Ron's Restoration shop, a local automotive shop. |
We also saw some of the full-size Hot Wheels cars. |

Lots and lots of people here to see the car show, get there Hot Wheels, and vendors: |

They also had a motorcycle dyno. |
One of the more interesting cars in the car show was the BugWing, an apparent joining of a VW bug and a Honda Goldwing. A reverse enclosed trike.
